The musicians, authors, journalists and places that feed my writing side and keep my brain spinning.
This is a constantly changing list, so check back every once in a while (the top post will be the newest edition). I'm a girl, so I reserve the right to change my mind.
Currently reading: The Long Ranger and Tonto fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie
I read another book by Alexie in college and loved it. I had heard about this book in class, but somehow it got filed away in the back of my brain. Last week I saw that book on my shelf when I was looking for something else and remembered about its earlier cousin. Next thing I knew I was in the check out line at B&N.
Currently listening to: I'm in a country boy sort of mood. I've been listening to a lot of Jake Owen, Lee Brice, Brantley Gilbert and Aaron Lewis (if a former alternative rock front man now has a solo album with a song called "Country Boy," that would make him country, right?) lately.
Current journalist who makes me think: Rachel Maddow

Current journalist who makes me think: Rachel Maddow
I am back on a Maddow kick. She has been hitting the talk-show circuit to talk about her new book about war in America. In a recent interview, she mentioned an investigation she was conducting into Michigan's state legislature and I was hooked. I have been following her show, this research, her blog posts and tweets like crazy to learn more and see what else she can dig up.
Currently reading: Me talk pretty one day by David SedarisIt was a gift from my friend Angie for my birthday. It is a collection of short stories from Sedaris' life that show just how out-of-left-field he is. It's great.
Currently listening to: "Old-school" hip-hop and R&B and classic Christmas music.
Lately, I've been downloading a lot of music from the 1970s, '80s and '90s and I've been leaning toward hip-hop and R&B that was popular when I was in nursery school: Bobby Brown, Run D.M.C., Boyz II Men and Bell Biv DeVoe. And what would Christmas be without Rosemary Clooney and Bing Crosby??

Current journalist who makes me think: Morning Joe
It's the 6-9a.m. news show on MSNBC. Joe Scarborough is a surly republican who debates with his co-hosts without yelling and interrupting anyone. He also brings a unique perspective to the group. I learn things from him. Plus, they feature an awesome music collection. And who doesn't love a group that sits around every morning with their morning cup of Starbucks while they debate who is the dumbest person on The Hill? If I'm awake early enough, I have to tune in.
Currently reading: The Intrigue at Highbury by Carrie Bebris
A continuing mystery series that feeds my curiosity and my love for all things Jane Austen. I know, I'm a nerd.
Currently listening to: Kate Voegele
I can't get enough of her. She is talented and creative without being bubble gum pop.
Currently following: Amber L. Carter's blog An Amber-Colored Life
My friend Angie just turned me on to this blog. Amber is honest and goofy and doesn't apologize for it. She also has written two books which I'm curious to check out.
I love her. She has a unique way of telling the truth, pointing out others' stupidity and finding humor in both.
